Pulisic's goal drought at AC Milan deepens as USMNT star hits 100-day dry spell
Christian Pulisic is enduring a significant goal drought at AC Milan, having failed to score in over 100 days as his club and international form has faltered. The 27-year-old American forward last found the net in a 3-0 win over Hellas Verona on December 22, 2023. His last goal, a strike against that same Verona side, was his eighth goal in 11 games, a prolific run of form that has since evaporated.
According to Italian media reports, Pulisic’s barren run has coincided with a difficult period for the Rossoneri, who have struggled for offensive consistency. The American’s personal struggles are set against a backdrop of broader team issues, with the team's tactical approach described as relying more on instinct than a coherent, prepared plan in the final third.
The 2026 calendar year has proven challenging for the USMNT captain. Beyond his club form, his international role has also shifted. During the March international window, U.S. men's national team coach Mauricio Pochettino made the decision to strip Pulisic of the captain's armband, a significant change for the player who has been the face of the national team. The decision, confirmed by the USMNT, leaves his leadership role in doubt ahead of the 2026 World Cup on home soil.
Pulisic's recent months have been further complicated by off-field distractions. The forward was also the subject of significant social media attention following a public dispute with his ex-girlfriend, which drew criticism his way. On the pitch, his season has been punctuated by a series of minor injuries, including a thigh lesion, muscle fatigue, and a bout of bursitis, which have disrupted his rhythm and limited his training consistency.
Contract negotiations with AC Milan have also stalled. The forward’s current deal at the San Siro runs until the summer of 2027, but talks over a new agreement have reportedly made no progress in some time. Pulisic is said to be in a period of reflection regarding his future, with the club and player needing to make a decision before the start of next season to avoid entering the final 12 months of his contract. For now, the focus remains on the pitch, where Pulisic will hope to end his goal drought against Hellas Verona this weekend, the very opponent he last scored against.
