Juventus are prepared to sell midfielder Arthur Melo for a fee of around €6 million, according to reports in Italy. The Brazilian currently plays for Gremio, but the club’s financial situation means a permanent deal is unlikely at the asking price of €10 million.
Arthur’s current contract with Juventus runs until 2027, extended previously to facilitate spreading his high wages, with the club now keen to offload him. While a loan move is not an option for Juventus, they are willing to negotiate a sale to avoid losing the player for free when his contract expires.
Arthur initially joined Juventus in 2020 from Barcelona, but has struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter in Turin. He has spent time on loan at Liverpool and Fiorentina, and most recently at Girona, where he made a positive impression, though not enough to secure a permanent move. His current spell at Gremio, his boyhood club, has also been underwhelming, with only one assist in 20 appearances and recent injury problems.
Despite wearing the captain’s armband for Gremio, Arthur has not significantly impacted the team’s performance, and the club acknowledges the difficulty in meeting Juventus’ asking price. Gremio are open to a deal, but only if Juventus significantly lower their demands, a scenario currently considered unlikely. Arthur himself is reportedly open to a return to European football, with a preference for La Liga, potentially revisiting a club like Girona. A return to Barcelona is considered improbable at this stage. The situation remains fluid, with Gremio awaiting developments in the market before making a final decision.
