Juventus are pursuing Marseille left-back Emerson Palmieri, with manager Luciano Spalletti keen to reunite with a former player, according to reports in Italy. Spalletti, who recently took charge at Juventus, is prioritizing players he has previously worked with, believing they will integrate quickly into his system.
Spalletti previously launched Emerson’s career at Roma a decade ago, and reportedly considered bringing him to Napoli during his time there. The 31-year-old has impressed at Marseille, making 37 appearances and providing 3 assists across all competitions this past season, often playing under Roberto De Zerbi. Juventus are evaluating options at left-back following the departure of Filip Kostic and the potential exit of Andrea Cambiaso, who has been linked with a move away due to financial considerations and the club’s qualification for the Europa League.
Emerson has a successful track record in European football, having won the Europa League, Champions League, and Super Cup with Chelsea, as well as the Conference League with West Ham. He was also a member of the Italian national team that won the European Championship in 2020. His agent is the same as Douglas Luiz, a player previously linked with a move to Juventus, and discussions regarding Emerson have resurfaced in recent days.
Juventus are also monitoring the situation with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, who has a pre-agreement with the club. However, the recent dismissal of Liverpool manager Arne Slot has potentially reopened negotiations, as Alisson may reiterate his desire to join Juventus to the new manager. Spalletti is hoping for a similar outcome with Alisson as he is with Emerson and Kim Min-jae, who remains a target in the event Bremer departs. The club is shifting away from data-driven signings towards players with proven Serie A experience and strong character, reflecting Spalletti’s preferences.
