Juventus are continuing discussions regarding a potential move for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, according to reports, casting further doubt over the future of current number one Michele Di Gregorio. The situation has created a sense of instability for Di Gregorio, who has faced scrutiny following a series of errors in recent matches.
Di Gregorio’s time at Juventus has been marked by inconsistency. While he initially provided moments of redemption, notably saving a penalty after replacing the injured Mattia Perin in March, he has also conceded goals from the first shot faced in 13 of 25 matches – a concerning statistic for the club. Manager Luciano Spalletti previously rotated Di Gregorio and Perin, aiming to give the former time to regain composure, but Perin subsequently established himself as the preferred choice until his injury.
The potential arrival of Alisson Becker adds another layer of complexity. Juventus are reportedly working to negotiate an agreement with Liverpool, who recently activated a contract extension clause for the Brazilian international, and must also satisfy Alisson’s wage demands. While Di Gregorio claims to not be directly involved in the transfer discussions, the possibility of being replaced is naturally unsettling.
Juventus are also considering alternative goalkeeping options, with former Manchester United keeper David de Gea and Napoli’s Alex Meret identified as potential “plan B” targets. Both De Gea and Meret have experience playing for teams that concede fewer shots, a contrast to the high-pressure environment at Juventus, where the goalkeeper is frequently called upon to make crucial saves. Di Gregorio’s most impressive performance this season came against Atalanta, a match where Juventus faced sustained pressure, suggesting a correlation between the level of opposition and his form. The club is evaluating all options as they look to solidify their goalkeeping position for the future.
