Juventus are actively pursuing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, but concerns over his physical condition and Villa’s reluctance to sell are prompting the Italian club to explore alternative options, according to reports in Italy. Martínez, who recently played through a fractured finger during the World Cup, has been identified as a priority target by Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti.
Martínez’s wife, Mandinha Martínez, recently detailed on social media the extent of the injury her husband played through, highlighting weeks of pain, uncertainty, and solitary training. While a public display of support, the timing of the post has coincided with ongoing negotiations between Juventus and Aston Villa, with the English club reportedly demanding a fee considered too high by the Italian side. Aston Villa are also reportedly interested in Parma’s Simone Suzuki, further complicating a potential deal.
Adding to the complexity, there are doubts surrounding the long-term effects of Martínez’s injury, with the possibility of surgery now being considered, which would rule him out for the start of the season. Despite these concerns, Juventus have reportedly reached an agreement with Martínez’s representatives.
As a result, Juventus are simultaneously pursuing other goalkeeping targets, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario emerging as a leading candidate. Tottenham are open to a loan deal for Vicario, whose contract runs until 2028, while Juventus are hesitant to meet the reported £18 million asking price. Vicario has reportedly expressed his interest in a move to Turin, and there is also reported interest from Napoli, who could offer Vanja Milinkovic-Savic in exchange. Other potential options include Friburgo’s Noah Atubolu, though he is considered too inexperienced for Spalletti’s requirements. Juventus remain focused on securing Martínez, but are prepared to pursue alternative options if a deal cannot be reached.
