Juventus have firmly decided against any potential sale of midfielder Weston McKennie, despite growing interest following his strong performances at the World Cup. The club intends to retain the American international, who signed a contract extension through 2030 in March.
McKennie has been a standout performer for the United States national team during the recent international competition, demonstrating both quality and versatility. His ability to break defensive lines has been particularly noteworthy, with Opta data revealing he has completed 13 passes that bypassed opposing defenses, including five in the recent match against Bosnia – at least four more than any other player in the tournament.
Beyond his on-field contributions, McKennie is also described as a key personality within the Juventus squad, maintaining a positive atmosphere and demonstrating leadership qualities. He is known for his upbeat demeanor and ability to rally teammates, even during challenging periods. Following a recent match, McKennie addressed the team’s resilience, stating that despite setbacks like the expulsion of a teammate, the squad would remain focused on securing points and winning games.
Within Juventus, McKennie is highly regarded by both coach Massimiliano Allegri and the club’s leadership. He is currently positioned as the primary backup to Manuel Locatelli in the midfield and is a strong contender to be named vice-captain, ahead of younger players like Kenan Yildiz and Bremer, whose future at the club remains uncertain. The club views McKennie as a central figure in their plans for both the present and the future, hoping he can bring a similar spark to the team as he has to the US national side.
