Juventus are reportedly monitoring Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino, with the club potentially viewing him as a more affordable alternative to primary targets Alexander Sorloth and Randal Kolo Muani. According to reports, the Bianconeri have been tracking the Argentinian since last season, recalling his goal against Juventus while playing for Parma under then-manager Ivan Tudor.
Parma CEO Fabio Cherubini has acknowledged interest from multiple clubs in Pellegrino, who joined Parma from Vélez Sarsfield for a modest fee, with the Italian side retaining a 50% stake in any future sale. Pellegrino’s journey to Italy has been circuitous, following his father Mauricio through spells in Spain with Valencia, Italy with Inter’s youth setup during Rafael Benítez’s tenure, and England, before returning to Argentina to establish himself with Platense and Vélez.
Pellegrino has impressed during his season and a half with Parma under managers Fabio Chivu and Giuseppe Cuesta. However, Parma are resolute in their valuation of the player, reportedly demanding a fee of at least €25 million for the forward. Juventus’s interest was reportedly communicated to Parma through Pellegrino’s representatives, potentially to gauge the club’s willingness to negotiate.
The 22-year-old has also drawn comparisons to Argentinian legends Martin Palermo and Hernán Crespo, with the latter having also played for Parma early in his career. Pellegrino himself has cited Crespo as an inspiration. Beyond his on-field performances, Pellegrino is noted for his dedication to mental wellbeing, incorporating meditation into his daily routine and even using it as part of his goal celebrations. He is also currently pursuing a degree in Sports Management at the University of Buenos Aires, demonstrating a commitment to life beyond football. A potential move to Juventus would offer Pellegrino a platform to compete at a higher level and further develop his career.
