Juventus have agreed personal terms with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, according to reports from Italy. The Serie A giants have now opened negotiations with the Premier League club over a potential transfer fee for the Brazilian international, who has been identified as a key target by manager Luciano Spalletti.
Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that Liverpool have placed a price tag of between €10 million and €15 million (£9-13 million) on the 33-year-old, whose contract at Anfield runs until June 2027. However, the same source claims Juventus are seeking a discount and have even made the surprising request for Liverpool to terminate the final year of his deal, allowing a free transfer – an approach said to have irritated the Merseyside club's hierarchy.
Alisson has been a cornerstone of Liverpool's success since his £67 million arrival from Roma in 2018, making 332 appearances and keeping 137 clean sheets. He played a pivotal role in the club's Champions League, Premier League, and domestic cup triumphs. His potential departure marks a significant moment, coming just a year after Liverpool invested heavily in Giorgi Mamardashvili as his long-term successor.
The Georgian goalkeeper's own injury, sustained in the recent Merseyside derby, has complicated Liverpool's immediate planning, leaving third-choice Freddie Woodman as the current starter. This situation adds another layer to the club's decision-making process regarding Alisson's future. Juventus' pursuit stems from their own goalkeeping concerns, with current number one Michele Di Gregorio reportedly facing replacement after a disappointing season.
Should a deal be completed, it could trigger a chain reaction in the goalkeeper market. Sources indicate that Juventus have Manchester City's James Trafford lined up as an alternative option if they cannot agree a fee for Alisson. Conversely, Liverpool themselves have been credited with interest in the 23-year-old Trafford, who has grown frustrated with his backup role behind Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Etihad.
The potential move represents a major shift for both clubs. For Juventus, securing a goalkeeper of Alisson's experience and pedigree would be a statement signing as they look to rebuild under Spalletti. For Liverpool, it would accelerate the transition to the Mamardashvili era, though the Georgian's injury adds immediate uncertainty. The coming weeks will determine whether the two clubs can bridge the gap in their valuation and complete a transfer that would reshape the goalkeeping landscape at the highest level of European football.
