Juventus are reportedly monitoring the progress of 19-year-old midfielder Mattia Liberali, currently playing for Serie B side Catanzaro. Scouts from the Turin club were in attendance at the U-Power Stadium to observe Liberali during a recent match, according to reports in Italy.
Liberali, who turned 19 in April, has quickly established himself as a key player for Catanzaro, becoming a pivotal figure under manager Alberto Aquilani. He helped propel the club to the Serie B playoff final, where they were narrowly defeated by Monza, denying them promotion to Serie A. Prior to joining Catanzaro, Liberali developed through the youth ranks at AC Milan.
The playmaker was a standout performer for Italy’s Under-17 team, winning the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2024. He also impressed during pre-season with Milan’s first team under Paulo Fonseca, providing an assist in a friendly against Manchester City. He made his senior debut for Milan before continuing his development with the club’s Primavera side.
Liberali’s performances have attracted interest from several other Serie A clubs, including Bologna, Como, and Sassuolo. Catanzaro own the player’s registration, however AC Milan retain a 50% stake in any future sale. This means Juventus would need to negotiate with both clubs to secure a deal for the promising talent. Known as “Il Mago” (The Magician), Liberali is a creative attacking midfielder with a penchant for dribbling and a strong left foot, drawing comparisons to Paulo Dybala. He has made 30 appearances in Serie B, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
