Juventus are considering a move for Real Madrid defender David Alaba as a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, according to reports in Italy. Initial inquiries have been positive, with the club assessing Alaba’s current physical condition and tactical suitability.
The interest stems from Juventus’ need for a left-footed central defender capable of building play from the back, someone who could compete with recent signing Lloyd Kelly for a starting position. While the club are open to younger options, they recognize the financial constraints and are willing to consider experienced players who can offer immediate quality, particularly on a free transfer. Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi, initiated discussions, though concerns were initially raised regarding the player’s age and recent injury record.
Alaba has struggled for consistent playing time at Real Madrid, making only nine appearances in La Liga this season, often due to tactical decisions and squad rotation rather than persistent injury. However, reports suggest recent physical assessments have been encouraging, and his exclusion from the starting eleven has been more related to the team’s internal dynamics under coach Arbeloa. He reportedly seeks a two-year contract with a net salary of €5 million per year.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is believed to be a fan of Alaba’s tactical versatility, while sporting director Giovanni Comolli sees the potential of acquiring a quality player without a transfer fee. The club are also continuing to monitor other defensive targets, including Manchester City’s Nathan Aké, who is seeking an exit from the Premier League, and Wolfsburg’s Konstantinos Koulierakis, who has impressed in the Bundesliga. City are reportedly asking between €10 million and €15 million for Aké. The addition of Alaba would provide valuable experience and depth to Juventus’ backline as they continue to rebuild their squad.
