Juventus are prioritizing a move for Sassuolo defender Marvin Muharemovic after encountering difficulties in their pursuit of Jhon Lucumi, according to reports in Italy. The Bianconeri initially targeted Lucumi, but Bologna’s unwillingness to lower their asking price – reportedly 28 million euros due to a release clause valid until mid-July – has prompted a change in strategy.
Juventus believe they have a more straightforward path to securing Muharemovic, aided by a strong existing relationship with Sassuolo cultivated last summer. This is particularly important given the number of transfer dealings Juventus anticipate completing before the transfer window closes. The club’s immediate priorities remain a goalkeeper and a centre forward, with a left-sided defender considered less urgent.
Sassuolo’s chief executive, Giovanni Carnevali, is believed to be a key advocate for the transfer, having reportedly convinced Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri of the player’s potential. Initial talks between the two clubs have taken place, with both sides expressing optimism. Juventus hold a 50% sell-on clause for Muharemovic, which complicates the valuation, but they are confident of negotiating a fee lower than Sassuolo’s initial asking price of 40 million euros.
Juventus are exploring the possibility of including midfielder Mattia Liberali in the deal to lower the cash component. Catanzaro’s Liberali has a 6 million euro release clause, but faces competition from Como and Milan. The potential inclusion of Liberali could prove decisive in securing Muharemovic. Meanwhile, Juventus are also progressing with the potential loan of Joao Mario to Fiorentina, who are seeking a replacement for Dodo, with a deal potentially worth between 8 and 10 million euros including loan fees and a conditional obligation to buy.
