Roma are hoping to secure a €40 million transfer for forward Matias Soulé to a Saudi Arabian club, potentially Al-Ahli or Al-Ittihad, according to reports in Italy. The move is being considered as Roma aim to meet Financial Fair Play regulations and generate necessary capital gains before the end of June.
Roma are under pressure to sell players quickly to avoid sanctions from UEFA, and Soulé has emerged as a potential departure. Both Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad are prepared to meet Roma’s asking price of €40 million, offering a lucrative contract to the player himself. However, Soulé is reportedly hesitant about a move to the Saudi Pro League, preferring to remain in Europe.
Soulé joined Roma ahead of the 2023-24 season and made a notable impact, contributing goals and assists. Despite his contributions, the club’s financial situation necessitates player sales. The potential sale would represent a significant profit for Roma, as Soulé is currently valued at €18 million on their books, with Juventus retaining a 10% sell-on clause.
Interest in Soulé extends beyond Saudi Arabia, with Aston Villa in the Premier League and Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga also expressing interest. Stuttgart, who previously showed interest last summer, are now considered serious contenders. A €40 million sale would provide Roma with a substantial boost, alongside incoming funds from IMG regarding international television rights, estimated at €17-18 million. This combined revenue would alleviate some of the pressure to generate further income. Meanwhile, Roma are also progressing in contract renewal talks with Paulo Dybala, aiming to reach an agreement that satisfies both parties.
