AS Roma have reached an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa, though a significant transfer fee remains a hurdle, according to reports in Italy. The Serie A club are also monitoring Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jean-Mattéo Bahoya as a potential alternative.
The Corriere dello Sport reports that Nusa, 21, has given his approval to a move to the Stadio Olimpico. The Norway international has impressed in the Bundesliga since joining Leipzig in 2021, contributing goals and assists while demonstrating pace and trickery. He has become a key component of the Leipzig attack, featuring prominently in both the league and Champions League.
However, Leipzig are reportedly holding firm on a €55million valuation for Nusa, a figure Roma are currently hesitant to meet. Negotiations between the clubs are expected to be protracted, with Roma potentially exploring alternative options if Leipzig do not lower their demands. The financial constraints imposed on Roma, coupled with their need to strengthen other areas of the squad, may make a deal for Nusa difficult to finalize at that price point.
As a result, Roma are simultaneously tracking Jean-Mattéo Bahoya of Eintracht Frankfurt. The 20-year-old Frenchman is viewed as a more affordable option, with Corriere dello Sport estimating his value at around €25million. Bahoya shares similar attributes to Nusa, possessing considerable pace and dribbling ability, which aligns with the profile Roma are seeking in a wide player.
Bahoya has featured regularly for Frankfurt since joining from Angers in 2023, establishing himself as a promising talent in the Bundesliga. While not as established as Nusa, Bahoya represents a viable alternative for Roma should they fail to reach an agreement with Leipzig. The pursuit of both players indicates Roma’s intent to reinforce their attacking options ahead of next season, potentially addressing a perceived weakness in their squad.
Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season, securing a Europa League spot, but are aiming to challenge for Champions League qualification in the upcoming campaign. Adding quality in wide areas is seen as crucial to achieving that ambition. Securing either Nusa or Bahoya would provide coach Daniele De Rossi with another attacking threat and tactical flexibility.
