Roma are in advanced talks with Olympique de Marseille regarding potential deals for Mason Greenwood and Igor Paixao, according to reports in Italy. The strengthening of ties between the two clubs, dating back to ancient alliances, has facilitated discussions, with several players having moved between the sides in recent decades including Veretout, Strootman, and Under.
Greenwood, currently at Feyenoord, has emerged as a target for Roma as Marseille seek to address financial concerns and avoid exclusion from European competitions. The 22-year-old has also attracted interest from Fenerbahce and, more recently, Atletico Madrid, but Roma appear to be leading the chase. The potential transfer comes after a period where Greenwood rebuilt his career in Spain and the Netherlands following a period away from the game.
Alongside Greenwood, Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is also keen on acquiring Igor Paixao, a Brazilian winger currently at Feyenoord. Gasperini previously attempted to sign Paixao for Atalanta in 2024 when Lookman’s departure seemed likely, but the move ultimately failed to materialize. Paixao has continued to impress, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists in 30 games across all competitions last season, including 4 goals in 8 Champions League appearances.
Marseille value Paixao at around €35 million plus bonuses, a similar price point to that of West Ham’s Summerville, who is also a target for Roma. Paixao’s profile aligns well with Gasperini’s tactical preferences, as he is described as a quick and skillful player who excels in one-on-one situations. The Brazilian earns approximately €3 million net per season, a figure within Roma’s reach. Both Greenwood and Paixao are considered likely to depart Marseille due to the club’s financial situation, potentially opening the door for Roma to bolster their attacking options.
