Rafaela Pimenta, the agent of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, has addressed speculation linking the player with a summer move to Barcelona. Pimenta stated that there has been “no contact whatsoever” between Haaland and the Spanish club, effectively dismissing recent rumours regarding a potential transfer. She spoke to ESPN, providing insight into the dynamics of Haaland’s long-term contract with City.
Haaland signed a new deal with Manchester City last year, committing him to the club until 2034. This contract removed a previous release clause estimated at around €100 million, significantly complicating any future departure. Pimenta explained that City held all the negotiating power during contract discussions, stating the club is “very organised” and “doesn’t really need anything” due to its existing strength and resources. This meant Haaland’s representatives had limited leverage in securing favourable terms.
The 25-year-old Haaland has been a prolific goalscorer for City since his arrival, establishing himself as a key player in Pep Guardiola’s squad. He has not publicly expressed any dissatisfaction with his current situation, and City have consistently maintained their desire to retain their star forward. Any potential offer from another club would likely be met with a substantial asking price, far exceeding Haaland’s current Expected Transfer Value (ETV) of €138.8 million.
Barcelona’s financial situation further diminishes the likelihood of a move. The club is reportedly unable to meet both the transfer fee and Haaland’s wage demands, making a deal financially unrealistic. Pimenta also touched on potential activity from other Premier League clubs, suggesting Liverpool may be active in the transfer market this summer, alongside Ajax. She acknowledged the stature of clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, contrasting them with the relative position of Liverpool and Ajax.
The agent’s comments strongly indicate that Haaland will remain at Manchester City for the foreseeable future. His long-term contract and City’s firm stance effectively close the door on a move to Barcelona, at least in the short term. This outcome solidifies City’s attacking prowess and provides stability to their squad as they continue to compete for domestic and European honours.
