Tariq Lamptey is expected to leave Fiorentina by mutual consent after less than a year at the club, according to reports in Italy. The right-back arrived from Brighton last summer for a fee of around €6 million, signing a contract until 2028, but a persistent injury has curtailed his time in Florence.
Lamptey featured in only two matches for Fiorentina, playing three minutes in the Serie A opener against Napoli and 22 minutes against Como. He sustained a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury during the match against Como in September, and despite initial hopes for a recovery, he never returned to the pitch. The club confirmed that the player and the club are nearing an agreement to terminate his contract.
The 23-year-old joined Brighton from Chelsea in 2018, quickly establishing himself as a dynamic and exciting full-back in the Premier League. However, injuries have consistently hampered his progress throughout his career, limiting his appearances and impacting his development. He made 60 appearances for Brighton across all competitions, showcasing his pace and attacking ability.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina will welcome Moise Kean back to training following permission granted for the birth of his second child. Riccardo Piccoli is also eager to return to training after working during the team's break, and the fitness of Marco Fortini and Alessandro Balbo will be assessed. The departure of Lamptey frees up a squad space and potentially allows Fiorentina to pursue alternative options at right-back during the next transfer window. The move allows Lamptey to seek a club where he can regain consistent playing time and continue his rehabilitation.
