Arsenal have emerged as potential suitors for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones this summer, according to reports from the Daily Mail’s Merseyside football correspondent, Lewis Steele. The 25-year-old is expected to leave Anfield, with Italian side Inter Milan also heavily linked with a move.
Jones made 49 appearances for Liverpool in the recently concluded season, contributing three goals and three assists. He demonstrated versatility by featuring at right-back due to injuries to Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley. Despite his contributions, Jones is reportedly seeking a new challenge where he can secure regular starts in central midfield, a guarantee Liverpool are currently unable to offer.
Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport reported on June 21st that Jones has already agreed to a move to Inter Milan and considers his time at Liverpool to be finished. Inter have already seen bids of £18million and £21million rejected, with Liverpool holding out for a fee of £35million despite Jones having only one year remaining on his current contract.
The potential interest from Arsenal adds a new dimension to the transfer saga. While the Premier League champions and Champions League finalists represent an attractive destination, game time could prove to be a significant obstacle for Jones, mirroring the challenges he faces at Liverpool. The midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter for the Reds, and a similar situation could arise under Mikel Arteta.
Former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton has suggested that a move to Villa Park might be a more sensible option for Jones, believing he would complement their midfield well. Hutton praised Jones’ quality on the ball, his desire to drive forward, and his ability to play in multiple positions. He believes Jones' experience at a high level could be a valuable asset to Villa.
Liverpool are reportedly actively seeking replacements, with some reports suggesting the player already anticipates who will take his place in the squad. The situation remains fluid, and the coming weeks will determine Jones’ next destination.
