Arsenal have identified AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone as a potential transfer target as they seek to bolster their midfield options this summer, according to reports in France. The Gunners are searching for a versatile player capable of operating in both the No. 6 and No. 8 roles ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Their pursuit of West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes is reportedly becoming increasingly difficult, with the 21-year-old nearing a €92 million (£80m) move to Manchester United, as reported by The Times. Fernandes enjoyed a productive 2025-26 campaign for West Ham, making 42 appearances across all competitions and contributing five goals and five assists.
Arsenal are also monitoring Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, though Ligue 1 club Lille are said to be resolute in their stance that a significant offer would be required to secure his services. However, L’Equipe reports that Arsenal are now focusing their attention on Kone, who recently earned a place in France’s World Cup squad.
Kone has impressed during his time with Roma, playing a vital role in their qualification for the Champions League after finishing third in Serie A in the 2025-26 season. He initially joined Roma on loan in 2024 with an obligation to buy for €18 million (£15.5m) after four seasons with Borussia Monchengladbach. Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini acknowledged in May that few players are truly “unsellable” in modern football, hinting at a potential willingness to consider offers for Kone.
Additionally, The Times reports that Arsenal have expressed interest in Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, who is valued at €115 million (£100m) by The Athletic. The summer transfer window officially opens for English clubs on Monday, June 15th. The potential arrival of Kone or Tonali would provide Arsenal with further depth and quality in the centre of the park as they look to build on their recent successes.
