Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid, but a deal appears improbable due to the player’s substantial wage demands, according to Sky Sports. Contract negotiations between Vinicius and Real Madrid have stalled, with only one year remaining on his current contract, raising the possibility of his departure from the Bernabeu.
Reports in Spain offer conflicting accounts of the contract situation. AS reports a “very minimal” difference between the club’s offer and Vinicius’s demands, suggesting both parties desire to continue their association. However, Jorge Picon claims a significant gap remains, stating Real Madrid are open to a sale to avoid losing the 26-year-old on a free transfer in 2027. The club reportedly will not improve their current offer.
This uncertainty has prompted Arsenal to explore a potential move, as suggested by The Athletic. However, Terry Gibson, a Spanish football expert speaking to Sky Sports, detailed Vinicius’s financial expectations. Currently earning €15 million per year net, Vinicius is seeking a new contract worth €30 million annually – approximately €550,000 per week net. Real Madrid has offered €20 million.
Such a salary would represent a significant departure from Arsenal’s current wage structure. Bukayo Saka is the club’s highest earner, with an estimated net salary of around £10.3 million (€12m) per year. To accommodate Vinicius, even at his current wage, Arsenal would need to drastically alter their pay scale. In addition to the wages, a transfer fee exceeding €100 million would also be required, as Vinicius’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands above that figure.
Arsenal’s squad building strategy has prioritized balance and team ethic, and a move for Vinicius, with his high salary and individual profile, would likely disrupt that approach. Given these financial and philosophical considerations, it is believed that Arsenal will not pursue a deal for the Brazilian winger any further.
