Arsenal are intensifying their interest in Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, potentially challenging Manchester United for the player’s signature, according to reports. Preliminary talks have begun between the Gunners and Rogers’ representatives as Mikel Arteta seeks to make a statement signing following Arsenal’s Premier League title win.
Rogers has emerged as a key player for Villa since joining from the Championship in February 2024, contributing 14 goals and 12 assists in 55 appearances this season. He was instrumental in Villa’s Europa League triumph, scoring their third goal in the final against Freiburg, and helped secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League. His versatility, capable of playing centrally or on the left wing, is a significant asset.
Manchester United had identified the 23-year-old as their first-choice target to strengthen their left-wing options, with both Jason Wilcox and Michael Carrick reportedly impressed by his potential. However, Arsenal’s intervention complicates United’s plans. Arteta reportedly views Rogers as a key addition, potentially impacting the futures of current wingers Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
Aston Villa are reportedly seeking a transfer fee in the region of £100-116 million for Rogers, using the recent £116 million transfer of Florian Wirtz to Liverpool as a benchmark. Villa sources have dismissed suggestions that Rogers could be available for a lower fee, emphasizing his quality and importance to the team. The club believe Rogers is comparable to, or even surpasses, Wirtz in current form.
While Rogers is happy at Villa, he is understood to be open to a move to a club with Champions League ambitions. Paris Saint-Germain has also been linked with an interest, mirroring the path taken by Jude Bellingham in seeking opportunities abroad. Arsenal are preparing a significant summer transfer window, with Arteta expected to be given a substantial budget to further strengthen the squad after their title-winning season. The pursuit of Rogers signals the club’s intent to compete at the highest level.
