Lazio have completed the signing of Alfonso Pedraza from Villarreal on a free transfer, the club confirmed on July 26th. The 27-year-old left-back joins the Serie A side after six seasons with the Spanish club.
Pedraza made 27 appearances in La Liga last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists. He also featured in five Champions League matches for Villarreal, contributing one assist. The Spaniard began his career with Alaves and also spent time with Betis Sevilla before establishing himself at Villarreal.
Speaking after joining Lazio, Pedraza described himself as a “generous player” who enjoys taking on opponents and driving forward with the ball. He cited Jordi Alba as a player he admired earlier in his career, but now looks to Ben Cucurella for inspiration. Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has already been impressed with Pedraza’s integration into the squad, noting his quick adaptation and positive attitude during training.
Sarri stated Pedraza “seems like he’s been here for years” and acknowledged the experience the player brings from a “major club and league.” Pedraza is currently recovering from a minor muscle issue, but it is not considered serious. The signing addresses a need for depth and competition at left-back for Lazio as they prepare for the upcoming Serie A season. He is expected to compete for a starting role in Sarri’s four-man defense.
Fantasy football analysts suggest Pedraza could be a low-cost option for Serie A fantasy leagues, valued at approximately 17 credits, and potentially worth up to 3% of a team’s budget at auction.
