Barcelona are weighing a potential move for Real Betis winger Ez Abde this summer, with manager Hansi Flick reportedly impressed by his performance against the Catalan club earlier this month. The interest comes as Barcelona evaluate options for the left wing position, with the future of current loanee Marcus Rashford uncertain.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Rashford is complicated by Manchester United’s insistence on a €30 million fee to make the deal permanent, a figure the club are reportedly reluctant to meet. With left wing considered a third priority in the transfer window, Barcelona are exploring more cost-effective alternatives. Flick is seemingly open to considering those options, and Abde has emerged as a potential target.
According to Cadena SER, Flick observed Abde closely during Real Betis’ 3-1 victory at Camp Nou on May 12th. The Morocco international caused problems for Barcelona right-back Jules Kounde throughout the match, even having a goal disallowed for offside. The report details that Flick left the game with a favourable impression of the 22-year-old’s abilities.
Barcelona previously sold Abde to Real Betis for a fee of €7.5 million three years ago, but crucially, the deal included a 20% sell-on clause. This clause would effectively offer Barcelona a discount should they choose to re-sign the player. However, potential interest from clubs in the English Premier League could complicate matters, and there are also questions regarding whether Abde would be content with a rotational role at the Camp Nou. Abde has developed into a key player for Betis, contributing goals and assists in La Liga, and may seek assurances of regular playing time.
Barcelona recently confirmed a new contract for Hansi Flick, signalling stability in the managerial position as the club plans its summer transfer business. The potential acquisition of Abde would represent a move for a familiar face, offering depth and competition in the attacking line. The club are also dealing with a recent injury to Fermín López, who is expected to be sidelined for three months, adding further urgency to their transfer planning.
