Barcelona are continuing their pursuit of Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, despite nearing a deal to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. The Spanish club have until June 15th to exercise the €30 million (£26m, $35m) buy-option included in Rashford’s current loan agreement with United.
According to TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey, Rashford is keen to remain at Barcelona, and the club reciprocates that desire. However, Barcelona are reportedly seeking another loan deal for the England international, with a view to a permanent transfer in 2027. Manchester United are holding firm on their demand for the full €30 million fee this summer, refusing to renegotiate or consider another loan arrangement.
Barcelona’s interest in Rashford hasn’t been dampened by their impending capture of Gordon, with a medical for the Newcastle winger already scheduled. Hansi Flick’s side, reigning LaLiga champions, are also in discussions regarding a move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, with talks already underway with the player’s agents and a bid planned.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague reported on Wednesday that Barcelona intend to keep Rashford as part of their squad, citing a return to financial rules allowing investment from player sales. Sky Sports journalist Danyal Khan echoed this sentiment, stating that the Gordon deal is not expected to impact Barcelona’s ability to activate the option to buy Rashford permanently. Khan also noted United’s firm stance and expectation that Rashford will leave on a permanent deal this summer, ruling out a return to Manchester or a reunion with Michael Carrick.
