Bayern Munich have matched Manchester United’s €40 million asking price for forward Marcus Rashford, according to Christian Falk via The Sun. The development comes after Rashford spent the past season on loan at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists for the Catalan club.
Despite a productive loan spell at Camp Nou, Barcelona are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal, as they are unable to meet Manchester United’s valuation and have instead sought another loan arrangement. United have been firm in their demands, seeking a substantial transfer fee for the 28-year-old Rashford. Bayern’s offer of €40 million now meets that revised price.
However, a significant obstacle remains: Rashford’s wage demands. The player currently earns an estimated €19.5 million per season, a figure Bayern Munich are unwilling to match, viewing him as a squad player rather than a guaranteed starter. This contrasts with Rashford’s willingness to take a pay cut to facilitate a move to Barcelona, a concession he has so far been unwilling to make for Bayern.
Barcelona’s interest in Rashford has also diminished following the recent €80 million acquisition of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. Gordon is expected to fill a similar role to Rashford, casting doubt on where the Manchester United loanee would fit into Hansi Flick’s plans at Camp Nou. The club is currently prioritizing a replacement for outgoing striker Robert Lewandowski, with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez a key target.
Manchester United have given Barcelona a deadline of June 15th to decide on a potential permanent transfer for Rashford. The player himself is not pressing for a swift resolution, benefiting from the open transfer window and potential further interest. A move to Bayern would offer Rashford the opportunity to play alongside Harry Kane, but he reportedly remains focused on securing a permanent deal with Barcelona.
