Bayern Munich complete Michael Olise signing from Crystal Palace
Bayern Munich have signed winger Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, the German club confirmed on Monday. The 22-year-old French youth international has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga giants, who are reported to have paid a fee in the region of £50 million to secure his services. The move sees Olise reunite with manager Vincent Kompany, under whom he briefly played during his time at Anderlecht.
Olise arrives at the Allianz Arena as a key part of Bayern's summer rebuild following a trophyless season. He joins a forward line already featuring Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry. The club's sporting director, Christoph Freund, described Olise as a player who "combines outstanding technique with speed and goal threat" and who fits the profile Bayern were seeking to add to their squad.
For Crystal Palace, the transfer represents a significant profit on a player they signed from Reading for just £8 million in 2021. Olise developed into one of the Premier League's most exciting creative forces during his three seasons at Selhurst Park, despite being hampered by injuries last campaign. He scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 19 league appearances, showcasing his ability from the right flank.
The move to Bayern offers Olise a platform in the Champions League and a chance to compete for major domestic honors, ambitions that were central to his decision. For Bayern, his signing addresses a need for more dynamism and directness in wide areas, providing an alternative to the more inverted style of Leroy Sane. Olise's arrival is expected to be the first of several as Bayern look to dethrone Bayer Leverkusen and re-establish domestic supremacy.
