Borussia Dortmund Poised to Appoint David Blacha in Backroom Move
Borussia Dortmund are expected to appoint David Blacha to a key backroom role, following the recent arrival of sporting director Ole Book from SV Elversberg. According to a report from German publication Kicker, the 35-year-old Blacha is set to reunite with Book at the Bundesliga club, continuing a professional partnership forged in the 2. Bundesliga.
Blacha served as a scout and head of first-team football at Elversberg under Book's leadership. When Book departed for Dortmund last month, Blacha stepped up to assume the sporting director duties at Elversberg on an interim basis. His anticipated move to Signal Iduna Park is seen as a logical step for Book, who is looking to build a trusted team in his new position overseeing Dortmund's sporting operations.
The transition, however, is not yet complete. Elversberg, who achieved a remarkable promotion to the 2. Bundesliga under Book's stewardship, are reportedly reluctant to release Blacha until they have filled their own vacant management positions. This suggests negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, with Dortmund likely to pay a compensation fee for Blacha, who is under contract.
For Dortmund, this represents a continued strategic shift under Book, who was brought in to revitalise the club's recruitment and long-term planning. Bringing in Blacha, a familiar and proven collaborator, allows Book to quickly install a key lieutenant who understands his methodology. The duo's success in building a competitive Elversberg side on a modest budget aligns with Dortmund's need for intelligent squad building.
For Blacha, the move is a significant career step, jumping from a newly-promoted second-tier club to one of Germany's perennial Champions League contenders. His primary focus at Elversberg was on player identification and squad planning, areas where Dortmund seek fresh impetus. His appointment would further solidify Book's new regime, as Dortmund aim to close the gap on rivals Bayern Munich and navigate a summer of expected squad evolution.
