Juventus defender Bremer voices frustration after 'six seasons of treading water'
Juventus defender Gleison Bremer has delivered a frank assessment of the club's recent stagnation, stating the Bianconeri have spent "six seasons treading water" and that he, at 29, is eager to win trophies. The Brazilian centre-back made the comments in a press conference ahead of his side's pivotal Serie A clash with AC Milan, a match that could all but secure Champions League qualification for next season. While not directly requesting a transfer, Bremer's pointed remarks about ambition and the club's minimum objectives have cast a spotlight on his future in Turin.
Bremer's critique extended to the season as a whole, which he described as not positive. "We could have done more, especially in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia," he said, according to reports from the press conference. He emphasized that at Juventus, "you are only a champion if you lift trophies." The defender did note positive signs, such as the contract extensions for manager Luciano Spalletti and teammate Kenan Yildiz, but stopped short of guaranteeing a title challenge next campaign, saying it was time for the club to "return to triumphing."
The defender also provided context on his personal situation, having recovered from a serious knee injury. He revealed he sought advice from Juventus legends Giorgio Chiellini and Alessandro Del Piero, who suffered similar injuries, and is working with a personal physiotherapist and psychologist. Bremer stated he is not yet at his pre-injury level but feels "much better lately" and is confident of returning to his best. His improved form has been central to Juventus's defensive solidity, with the team conceding only once in their last six league matches.
Amidst Bremer's comments, reports indicate the Juventus management is planning a significant summer transfer window aimed at building a scudetto-winning squad. A primary target, according to sources close to the club, is Liverpool and Brazil goalkeeper Alisson, a compatriot of Bremer. When asked, Bremer praised Alisson as a "world-class goalkeeper" but deferred transfer matters to the club, noting the current presence of Mattia Perin and the returning Michele Di Gregorio.
The immediate focus remains on the pitch, with Bremer acknowledging the challenge posed by Milan and their manager, former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri. A victory would put Juventus in a commanding position for a top-four finish. Bremer's public airing of his desire for immediate success, however, signals a growing impatience within the squad and sets the stage for a crucial summer where the club's actions must match its stated ambitions.
