Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has provided updates on several transfer situations during a press conference in Dimaro Folgarida, as reported by Italian journalists. Manna confirmed the club’s intention to retain midfielder Frank Anguissa, despite reported interest from other clubs, and addressed speculation surrounding Romelu Lukaku and Andrea Lucca.
Manna stated that Anguissa is a key player for Napoli and that the club does not foresee a need to renegotiate his contract, which is expiring. He did, however, express dissatisfaction with recent comments made by Kevin De Bruyne, a player currently under contract with Napoli, stating they would clarify the situation with the Belgian. De Bruyne’s future had been subject to speculation, but Manna emphasized his commitment to the project.
The director also discussed potential attacking reinforcements, focusing on Lukaku and Lucca. He acknowledged Lukaku’s strong performance at the recent World Cup, despite limited playing time, and indicated the club would evaluate his situation. Napoli invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund, and Manna stressed the need to align these investments. Regarding Lucca, Manna highlighted the young striker’s potential, noting his versatility and physical attributes, but also acknowledged areas for improvement.
Manna also addressed the injury to Alessandro Buongiorno, which has altered the club’s defensive plans. The injury came as a surprise, given the team already had five central defenders plus Olivera. While acknowledging the need for a defender, Manna emphasized the importance of avoiding hasty decisions and overspending. The club will remain attentive to the market but will not rush into a purchase. The sporting director also indicated that any potential moves will be dependent on outgoings, particularly in key positions.
