Renato Marin will join Portuguese side CD Nacional on a season-long loan, according to L’Équipe. The 20-year-old Italian-Brazilian goalkeeper arrived at Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer from AS Roma last year and is expected in Portugal on Saturday to finalize the move.
Marin was considered by PSG to be a goalkeeper with significant potential, and he made two Ligue 1 appearances for the club at the end of last season. The Parisian club’s decision to loan him stems from a desire for him to gain regular first-team experience and continue his development with a full season of competitive football.
This move follows PSG’s acquisition of Alessandro Longoni, an 18-year-old who joined after his contract with AC Milan expired. Longoni will serve as the third-choice goalkeeper at the Parc des Princes, behind new signing Matveï Safonov and Lucas Chevalier. The future of Chevalier at PSG remains uncertain, according to reports.
Marin’s path to the PSG first team was blocked by the arrival of Safonov, prompting the loan to CD Nacional, who finished 14th in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season. The loan provides Marin with an opportunity to establish himself as a regular starter and gain valuable experience in a different footballing environment. This move could prove crucial in determining his long-term future with PSG upon his return.
The loan deal allows PSG to assess Marin’s progress while ensuring he continues to develop without stagnating on the bench. It also provides the club with a contingency plan should the situation with Chevalier change, or should they require additional goalkeeping depth in the future.
