Le Havre Athletic Club are reportedly interested in appointing Demba Ba, currently the sporting director of Dunkerque, according to L’Équipe. Ba, a former Chelsea striker, has been identified as a potential replacement for Mathieu Bodmer in the role. However, Dunkerque president Selçuk Demir has dismissed any suggestion that Ba will be leaving the club.
Demir stated that he has “no concerns” regarding Ba’s future, emphasizing that the former Senegal international is highly sought after due to his “excellent work” at Dunkerque. He added that Ba is already focused on preparing for the upcoming transfer window for the club. This suggests Dunkerque are keen to retain Ba’s services as they plan for the future.
Ba transitioned into a directorial role after a successful playing career that included spells at Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Besiktas. He joined Dunkerque as a co-president and sporting director, playing a key role in the club’s recruitment and overall strategy. His work has evidently impressed other clubs within French football, leading to Le Havre’s interest.
The potential move to Le Havre would represent a step up for Ba, with the club aiming to establish themselves in Ligue 2. Le Havre finished the recent season strongly, reaching the promotion play-offs, and believe Ba’s expertise could be vital in their pursuit of promotion. Despite the interest, Demir’s firm stance indicates Dunkerque are determined to keep Ba at the club, potentially forcing Le Havre to explore alternative options.
