Le Mans have completed the signing of forward Louis Mafouta from Guingamp as they prepare for their return to Ligue 1, the club confirmed on Friday. The 32-year-old, who scored 15 goals in Ligue 2 last season, underwent a medical and has agreed terms with the newly promoted side. No fee has been disclosed by either club.
Mafouta’s departure from Guingamp was anticipated, as he missed both of the club’s friendly matches in Dinard against Laval and Red Star this past Friday. He had been under contract with Guingamp until 2028, making the transfer a significant move for Le Mans as they bolster their attacking options. The Central African Republic international has 33 caps for his country, scoring 16 goals.
Despite interest from other clubs earlier in the transfer window, Mafouta was reportedly attracted by the opportunity to play in Ligue 1 again, having previously made 15 appearances and scored two goals for Metz in 2022. His arrival at Le Mans follows the confirmed signing of Billal Brahimi, another attacking player who typically features on the wing. The pair will add further competition and depth to Le Mans’ forward line.
Le Mans’ attack was spearheaded last season by Dame Gueye, who finished as the Championship’s eleventh-highest goalscorer with 10 goals, and Antoine Rabillard, who recently extended his contract with the club until 2028. Mafouta’s addition is expected to provide a different dimension to their attack and increase their goal-scoring threat as they face the challenges of the top flight. The signing signals Le Mans’ intent to establish themselves as a competitive force upon their return to Ligue 1.
