AC Milan have completed the signings of Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain and Mario Gila from Lazio, totaling €100 million in investment from owner Gerry Cardinale, according to reports in Italy. Ramos arrives for a fee of approximately €70 million, while Gila joins for around €30 million.
The acquisitions address key areas of need for Milan, particularly in attack and central defense. The club reportedly identified a lack of a consistent goalscoring threat since the departure of Olivier Giroud, and Ramos is expected to fill that void. Gila’s arrival bolsters a defense that, while conceding a similar number of goals to champions Inter Milan last season (35), was perceived as needing reinforcement.
Ramos joins Milan after a relatively short spell with Paris Saint-Germain, where he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. Prior to his move to France, the Portuguese forward had gained recognition for his goalscoring ability in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with Benfica. He will be looking to become the focal point of Milan’s attack, a role previously attempted with Rafael Leão, a strategy that did not prove successful under previous management.
Gila’s transfer from Lazio provides Milan with added depth and quality in the center of defense. The Spaniard has established himself as a reliable Serie A defender, and his arrival will provide competition for places and tactical flexibility. Cardinale’s significant investment is particularly notable given Milan’s absence from the Champions League next season, which will result in a loss of revenue estimated between €50-60 million. The owner’s commitment signals a desire to rebuild and compete despite the financial challenges. These signings indicate a clear intent to strengthen the squad and challenge for Serie A honors in the upcoming campaign.
The investment from Cardinale is seen as a significant boost for the club, demonstrating a willingness to spend despite the financial implications of missing out on Champions League qualification. Both Ramos and Gila are expected to play key roles as Milan look to return to the top of Italian football.
