Sassuolo CEO confirms interest in defender Muharemovic amid Inter and Juventus links
Sassuolo chief executive Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed that significant interest exists in defender Tarik Muharemovic, acknowledging that proposals for the player have already arrived at the club. In an interview, Carnevali stated that the club would evaluate all options for the Bosnian centre-back at the end of the season, with both Italian giants and Premier League clubs understood to be among the suitors.
Carnevali moved to clarify the 24-year-old's situation, indicating no immediate decision would be made. "Currently there is no news on his future," Carnevali said. "I think it is right to finish the championship because we still have important matches ahead of us. Then we will make our evaluations on the requests that will arrive and have already arrived, but it is not said that we have to sell him at all costs." The executive's comments suggest Sassuolo are under no financial pressure to sell one of their key assets.
The defender's profile has risen considerably this season following a series of commanding performances for Sassuolo in Serie A. His stature was further amplified on the international stage last month when he played a pivotal role in Bosnia and Herzegovina's victory over Italy, a result that eliminated the Azzurri from World Cup qualification. That high-profile display is reported to have solidified interest from several top clubs.
Among those linked are Inter Milan, who are monitoring Muharemovic as a potential replacement for Alessandro Bastoni should the Italian international be sold to Barcelona. Juventus also maintain a significant stake in any future transfer, having negotiated a 50% sell-on clause when they sold the player to Sassuolo in 2022. When asked about the possibility of Juventus re-signing him at a discount, Carnevali noted the clause but emphasized that the final valuation would depend on the market. "We have not given him a value, we will evaluate from whom the proposals come," he explained. "If from a big Italian team or from a Premier League team, the values change."
Carnevali also highlighted Sassuolo's model of developing young talent, suggesting the club is open to either a lucrative sale or retaining the player. "Our goal is to give these boys the opportunity to reach big clubs, but we would also be happy to keep them," he said. Muharemovic joined Sassuolo from Juventus's Under-23 side and has since established himself as a mainstay in their defence, making over 60 appearances. His continued development at the Mapei Stadium has made him one of the most sought-after defensive prospects in Serie A, with his physicality and ball-playing ability attracting cross-border attention.
The coming months will determine whether Muharemovic remains a cornerstone of the Sassuolo project or becomes the latest talent to graduate from the club to a European heavyweight. Any transfer is likely to command a substantial fee, particularly if a bidding war emerges between domestic and English clubs.
