Inter president Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the club's faith in head coach Cristian Chivu and outlined a transfer strategy focused on integrating young Italian talent following their Serie A title win. Speaking to broadcasters after Inter secured their 21st Scudetto with a victory over Parma, Marotta dedicated the triumph to the coach, the squad, and the club's ownership. He expressed particular pride in winning a league title as a club president, a first in his long career in football administration.
Marotta revealed the swift decision-making behind Chivu's permanent appointment, noting that the former Inter defender was chosen just one day after Simone Inzaghi's departure was finalized on Monday. "We chose him with courage," Marotta told DAZN. He praised Chivu's pedigree, referencing his Treble win as a player with Inter, his captaincy of Ajax at age 21, and his recent success in keeping Parma in Serie A. Marotta stated his desire for Chivu to remain at the club for many years, calling his lack of top-level managerial experience his only shortcoming, one the club was prepared to support.
Beyond the coaching situation, Marotta addressed the ongoing investigation into the club's alleged compilation of lists of favoured and disfavoured referees. Speaking to Sky Sport, he expressed "great bitterness" over the case, insisting Inter have always behaved with correctness and have nothing to fear. He sought to reassure fans of the club's transparent conduct throughout the process.
Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, Marotta indicated a clear strategy to rejuvenate the squad while maintaining a competitive edge. He acknowledged that the team's average age was lowered last season but emphasized the need for further injections of youth, balanced with experienced professionals. "We will try to graft even more young players," he said, while stressing the importance of the right mix to continue winning. A specific focus will be on recruiting Italian players who can complement the existing core of nationals at the club, with Atalanta's defender Giorgio Scalvini mentioned by Italian media as a potential target fitting this profile.
The president's comments suggest a summer of targeted, strategic recruitment for Inter, aimed at building a sustainable cycle of success under Chivu. The immediate focus remains on celebrating a historic title, but the groundwork for defending it is already being laid, with a clear emphasis on youth and bolstering the Italian contingent within the squad.
