Benjamin Pavard’s loan spell at Marseille is under scrutiny as Inter Milan assess the performance of their seven players currently out on loan. The French defender joined the Ligue 1 side in January seeking more consistent playing time, but his future at the club is now uncertain according to reports in the Italian press.
Pavard, 28, moved to Inter from Bayern Munich in August 2023, quickly becoming a key figure in Simone Inzaghi’s title-winning team. He made 27 appearances across all competitions, contributing defensively and even scoring in Serie A. However, a desire for regular football led to the loan move to Marseille, where he has featured 14 times in Ligue 1. The circumstances surrounding his time in France have prompted Inter to consider a potential early return.
Inter are also monitoring the situations of Kristjan Asllani, on loan at Besiktas, and Lucas Palacios, who is with Estudiantes. Asllani has been a regular starter for the Turkish side, providing valuable experience in midfield, while Palacios’s form is reportedly causing concern for the Nerazzurri. Valentin Carboni’s loan at Racing is complicated by a long-term injury, and his brother, Francesco Carboni, is currently with Parma.
Youngsters Akinsanmiro (Pisa) and Massolin (Modena) are also gaining experience in Serie B, providing Inter with valuable data on their development. The club will evaluate each player’s progress at the end of the season to determine their future roles within the squad. Inter’s loan strategy aims to provide playing time for squad players and develop young talent, while also potentially generating transfer revenue in the future.
The situation with Pavard is particularly noteworthy, as Inter invested a significant fee in his acquisition last summer. A premature end to his loan spell could lead to a reassessment of his role at the club, potentially opening the door for a permanent transfer next summer. The outcome of these loan deals will influence Inter’s transfer strategy in the upcoming window.
