Real Madrid have issued a statement dismissing reports linking them with a move for Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. The club released a communiqué on Tuesday refuting claims that emerged in recent days in both the media and on social media platforms, stating they have had “no contact, direct or indirect, with the player, his representatives or anyone in his entourage.” Reports had suggested a potential bidding war with Paris Saint-Germain, with Real Madrid allegedly preparing an offer exceeding €200 million.
President Florentino Perez’s club were keen to emphasize the “excellent institutional relationship” they maintain with Bayern Munich, seemingly prompted by speculation surrounding Olise’s potential availability. The statement expressed regret over the spread of “speculations that do not correspond to reality.” Real Madrid reiterated that any potential interest in a player contracted to another club should be conducted directly between the two institutions, upholding the “principles of institutional loyalty” that have historically defined their relationship with Bayern Munich.
Historically, despite a long-standing rivalry on the European stage, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have frequently engaged in transfer business. Notable players who have moved between the two clubs include Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez, Xabi Alonso, and Arjen Robben, demonstrating a pragmatic approach to player acquisitions despite their competitive dynamic. Olise, 22, has been a key player for Crystal Palace since joining from Reading in 2021, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents.
Olise recently enjoyed a strong season with Palace, contributing significantly with goals and assists despite being hampered by injuries. He has become a focal point of their attacking play, attracting attention from several top European clubs. The Palace academy graduate has also earned international recognition, representing France at youth levels. The denial from Real Madrid suggests they are focused on other targets this summer, or are prioritizing maintaining a positive relationship with Bayern Munich over pursuing a potentially complex transfer. This closes a potential avenue for Olise to move to La Liga, at least for the time being.
