Real Madrid have triggered their buyback clause for midfielder Nico Paz, bringing the 19-year-old back to the Spanish capital from Como, according to reports from Italy. The move, finalized after a meeting at Valdebebas, will see Madrid reacquire Paz for a fee of €10 million.
Como, however, have been offered the first opportunity to re-sign Paz for a significantly increased fee of €60 million. As part of the agreement, Real Madrid would also include a further buyback clause for next year, this time set at €80 million, effectively setting up a potential auction for the promising Argentinian talent. This structure gives Como a preferential position, offering them a clear path to secure Paz’s services while also allowing Real Madrid to maintain control over his long-term future.
Paz joined Como last season and quickly became a key player under manager Cesc Fàbregas, making 31 appearances across all competitions. He impressed with his technical ability and maturity beyond his years, contributing three goals and one assist. Prior to his move to Italy, the Argentinian youth international progressed through Real Madrid’s academy, but failed to establish himself in the first team.
While €60 million is currently considered a high fee for Como, several other European clubs, including teams from the English Premier League and Inter Milan, are monitoring the situation closely. The expectation is that a bidding war could ensue if Como decide not to exercise their buyback option, potentially driving up Paz’s value even further. The inclusion of future buyback clauses by Real Madrid suggests they view Paz as a player with significant potential, and are keen to retain some control over his career trajectory. This move allows Como to profit from developing a young talent, while also providing Real Madrid with a valuable asset and potential future first-team player.
