Torino have activated their obligation to sign Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin on a permanent deal, according to reports in Italy. The clause, agreed when the 22-year-old moved to Serie A on loan last summer, was contingent on the club securing their top-flight status, a feat achieved with a draw against Inter Milan last weekend. While the exact fee remains undisclosed, Anjorin's transfer is now set to be finalized, making him a full Torino player.
The England youth international joined Chelsea's academy at a young age and was long considered one of the club's most promising prospects. He made his senior debut for the Blues in 2019 and earned praise for his powerful, direct style of play as an attacking midfielder. Seeking regular first-team football, Anjorin spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow before moving to Huddersfield Town in the Championship the following year.
His switch to Torino last August represented a step back into a top-five European league and an opportunity to reignite his development. Under manager Ivan Juric, Anjorin has been utilized primarily as a squad player, making 17 appearances across all competitions and contributing one goal. His season has been hampered by injury issues, but the club's decision to secure his services permanently indicates a belief in his long-term potential within their project.
The activation of the clause represents a straightforward piece of business for Torino, who had clearly planned for this outcome. For Chelsea, it continues a process of streamlining their squad and converting academy assets into permanent transfers. Anjorin's path at Stamford Bridge was blocked by significant investment in the first-team attacking ranks, making a permanent departure the most logical step for his career.
This move concludes Anjorin's long association with Chelsea, where he had a contract until 2025. For Torino, securing a young player they have already integrated into the squad provides useful depth and a known quantity for the future. The club is also expected to make the loan of striker Sandro Kulenovic permanent under the same survival-triggered clause, as they plan for another season in Serie A.
