Rafael Leao is at the center of transfer speculation as AC Milan prepare for a significant squad overhaul this summer, according to reports emerging from Italy. Gerry Cardinale, the club’s owner, is expected to oversee substantial changes to the playing staff following a disappointing end to the season which saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.
Cardinale was reportedly dissatisfied with the attitude of several players following the defeat to Cagliari, praising the commitment of Luka Modric, Christian Pulisic, Strahinja Pavlovic and Charles De Ketelaere, while questioning the dedication of others. This has led to a belief that numerous players will be departing the club.
Leao, who currently earns €5.5 million net per season at Milan, has attracted interest from Galatasaray, who are prepared to offer him a lucrative deal worth €10 million net per year. A rival bid from Fenerbahçe has also been reported, with the Turkish club set to hold presidential elections in early July. While Fenerbahçe’s interest is noted, Galatasaray are currently considered to be in a more advanced position to secure Leao’s signature. The Portuguese winger could potentially fetch between €40-50 million for Milan, a figure lower than previous expectations but still a valuable sum.
Alongside Leao, the futures of Modric and Adrien Rabiot are also uncertain. Modric’s position is complicated by Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, despite his enjoyment of life in the city and his daughter’s involvement with a local team. Rabiot’s situation is linked to the potential arrival of a new manager, as he previously refused to renew his contract at Juventus when Massimiliano Allegri left the club.
Interestingly, Cardinale is keen to retain Pulisic despite a disappointing season for the American, recognizing his importance as captain of the United States national team. Pavlovic may also remain, but Milan are open to offers, potentially valuing him around €40 million. Other players like Mike Maignan are expected to stay, while others like Füllkrug and Gimenez are likely to be moved on. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the shape of the Milan squad for next season.
