Rafael Leao has announced his desire to leave AC Milan this summer, seeking “a new challenge in a new league”, prompting speculation of interest from Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal.
The 26-year-old winger joined Milan from Sporting CP in 2019 and quickly established himself as a key player, notably contributing 16 goals as the team reached the Champions League semi-finals in the 2022-23 season. However, his recent form has dipped, leading to reports in Italy suggesting Milan were prepared to consider offers for the forward.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet sport tv, Leao stated he has “given everything” to Milan, a club that provided significant support during his career, and that he feels ready for a new chapter. “Fortunately, I managed to make my mark in their history,” he said. “Everyone has ambitions and I dream of a new challenge in a new league. If that happens, I'll be very happy and fulfilled because I did my job at AC Milan.”
While Leao did not specify potential destinations, both Manchester United and Arsenal have been tentatively linked with a move for the Portugal international. Bayern Munich have also been mentioned as potential suitors, having recently missed out on Barcelona-bound Anthony Gordon. Leao, who scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for Milan this season, will hope to showcase his abilities at the upcoming World Cup with Portugal.
Milan finished outside of the Champions League qualification places in the recently concluded Serie A season, losing 2-1 to Cagliari on the final day. The club is now actively seeking a new manager, with reports from the Daily Mail indicating they are in talks with recently departed Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner. Milan are also reportedly interested in appointing former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick as their new sporting director, and envision Glasner working under the Austrian.
