Rafael Leao’s future at Milan is increasingly uncertain, with a potential move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal emerging as a possibility, according to reports. The Portuguese winger, 26, appears set to depart the Serie A club at the end of the season after a period of declining form and a perceived breakdown in his relationship with the club.
Leao has struggled to replicate the performances that saw him shine between October and November, and partially in January, leading to a sense of resignation within Milan regarding his long-term future. While a dramatic turnaround in the final games of the season could alter the situation, the club is reportedly prepared to part ways with the player, believing the investment no longer justifies the returns.
Milan are currently valuing Leao’s transfer around €50-60 million, a significant decrease from his €175 million release clause and the €100 million offer previously received from Chelsea. His current contract includes a base salary of €5.5 million net per season, potentially rising to €7 million with bonuses, adding to the financial considerations for potential suitors. Interest has been reported from Manchester United and Barcelona, but these leads are currently described as ‘not hot’.
The possibility of a move to Al-Hilal is gaining traction, having been previously discussed in May-June 2024 and again in January 2025. Al-Hilal, managed by Simone Inzaghi, presents the added attraction of reuniting Leao with his Milan teammate Theo Hernandez. While Leao previously showed little interest in a move to the Saudi League, the financial incentives and the presence of a familiar face could prove persuasive. Leao remains an ambitious player, and will weigh whether to accept a lucrative, but less competitive, opportunity in Saudi Arabia or wait for offers from top European clubs. A final, less probable, option remains a reconciliation with Milan.
