Rafa Leao is at the center of transfer speculation as AC Milan prepare for a significant squad overhaul following a disappointing season, according to reports emerging from Italy. Galatasaray have reportedly entered the race to sign the Portuguese forward, offering him a substantial contract worth €10 million net per season.
The potential departure of Leao is part of a wider restructuring initiative led by Gerry Cardinale, Milan’s owner, who was reportedly dissatisfied with the team’s attitude following their defeat to Cagliari. Cardinale is believed to be keen on retaining Christian Pulisic, despite a difficult season for the American, and Strahinja Pavlovic, though the club would consider offers for the Serbian defender. Several other players are expected to leave the club.
Leao, who currently earns €5.5 million plus bonuses at Milan, has been a key player for the Rossoneri since joining from Lille in 2019. However, his value has decreased in recent seasons, and Milan could reportedly receive between €40-50 million for him, a figure lower than the €80-100 million previously anticipated. Fenerbahçe have also expressed interest in the player, coinciding with their upcoming presidential elections.
Alongside Leao, the futures of Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot are also uncertain. Modric’s decision will likely hinge on whether Milan qualify for the Champions League, a feat they failed to achieve this season. Rabiot’s situation is tied to the potential return of Massimiliano Allegri, the manager who initially brought him to the club. Should Allegri not return, Rabiot’s future at Milan is in doubt, mirroring a similar situation he faced at Juventus when Allegri left the club.
Other players facing uncertain futures include Tomori, Füllkrug, and Gimenez, while Maignan’s position appears secure after renewing his contract. Milan’s disappointing season, which saw them fall short of Champions League qualification, has resulted in a reported financial loss of over €70 million, highlighting the need for strategic player sales and recruitment. The club spent over €515 million on transfers in recent seasons, but this investment has not translated into on-field success.
