Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to sign AC Milan winger Rafael Leao this summer, according to a report in The Times. The development comes as Manchester United also monitor the Portuguese international, who has publicly expressed his desire to seek a new challenge after a successful spell in Italy.
Leao, 26, has been a key player for AC Milan, being named in three of the last five Serie A Teams of the Season. He recently stated his intention to leave the club, telling Sport TV Portugal, “I’m proud as I made history at AC Milan but I want new chapter…I feel ready to play in another league. I did my best for Milan, but it’s time to try another challenge.”
AC Milan are reportedly willing to consider offers around €50m / £43m for the winger. Manchester United have shown genuine interest in Leao, seeking to bolster their forward line as they aim to close the gap on Premier League champions Manchester City. However, they have yet to make a formal bid.
Arsenal are also in the market for a winger, with manager Mikel Arteta prioritizing the position this summer. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Gunners are “almost guaranteed” to make three significant signings – a right-back, a midfielder, and a winger – with the winger being the top priority. Arsenal previously missed out on Anthony Gordon, who joined Barcelona, and have also been tracking Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
The offer of Leao presents Arsenal with a potentially high-profile option to strengthen their attack following their Premier League title challenge. While the report doesn’t indicate whether Arsenal will pursue a deal, the opportunity is certainly there. Securing Leao would provide Arteta with another dynamic attacking threat as Arsenal look to build on their recent success and challenge for further silverware. A move for Leao could potentially see Arsenal establish themselves as a dominant force in English football for years to come.
