Leeds United are in advanced discussions to sign Sporting CP midfielder Hidemasa Morita, despite denials from the club, according to reports from TEAMtalk and intermediaries familiar with the negotiations. The 30-year-old is expected to become a free agent this summer when his contract with Sporting expires, making him an attractive option for several Premier League clubs.
While Leeds have publicly downplayed their interest, sources indicate talks have taken place through intermediaries in recent weeks. The West Yorkshire club are seeking to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season and view Morita’s experience, versatility, and tactical intelligence as valuable assets. Leeds have reportedly proposed a contract to Morita through to 2028, with an option for an additional year.
Morita has been a key player for Sporting since joining from Santa Clara in 2022, making over 160 appearances and helping the club secure back-to-back Primeira Liga titles in 2024 and 2025. The Japanese international has also earned 40 caps for his country, demonstrating his international pedigree and work ethic. His consistency has drawn attention from clubs across Europe.
However, Leeds face competition for Morita’s signature. Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion have also been monitoring the midfielder closely, while Porto have also expressed interest. Furthermore, clubs in France, Germany, and Italy have made enquiries regarding his availability. Despite the competition, Leeds are believed to be in a strong position, with Morita reportedly intrigued by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
Leeds have also considered a move for Wolves midfielder Andre, but his £35 million asking price is deemed too high, shifting their focus towards the more affordable option of Morita. The club is also reportedly optimistic about securing a deal for Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci. Securing Morita would provide Daniel Farke with a seasoned midfielder capable of contributing immediately to the team's stability and quality.
