Leeds United Sign Southampton's Che Adams in £15m Deal
Leeds United have completed the signing of Southampton striker Che Adams for a reported £15m fee, finalizing a four-year contract with the Scotland international. The 27-year-old moves to Elland Road after five seasons at Southampton, where he scored 34 goals in 155 appearances across all competitions.
Adams becomes Leeds' third major summer signing as they prepare for their Premier League campaign following promotion. The forward, who had entered the final year of his Southampton contract, provides proven top-flight experience having scored 25 Premier League goals since joining from Birmingham City in 2019.
Southampton opted to cash in rather than risk losing their striker on a free transfer next summer. The south coast club, now competing in the Championship after relegation in 2023, have already signed Adam Lallana and Taylor Harwood-Bellis this window as they rebuild under new manager Russell Martin.
For Leeds, the acquisition addresses their need for attacking depth after selling Georginio Rutter to Aston Villa earlier this summer. Adams' work rate and physicality are seen as ideal fits for manager Daniel Farke's pressing system. The move reunites Adams with former Southampton teammates Kyle Walker-Peters and James Ward-Prowse at Leeds.
The transfer concludes a prolonged pursuit of Adams by Leeds, who failed with multiple bids during their previous Premier League stint in 2021-22. His arrival comes days before Leeds' season opener against Tottenham Hotspur, with the striker likely to compete with Patrick Bamford for a starting role.
