Leeds United have announced the permanent signing of defender Tarik Muharemović from Italian Serie A club Sassuolo, the club confirmed on their official website. The 23-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League side, with the transfer fee reported to be around €40 million.
The move sees Muharemović join Leeds as their second permanent signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrival of Harry Wilson. Leeds highlighted the player’s experience despite his young age, noting his impressive performances for Sassuolo during the 2025/26 season where they finished 11th in Serie A. He subsequently represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the recent FIFA World Cup.
Muharemović began his career in Austria, making his professional debut with Wolfsberger AC in the Austrian Bundesliga. After just six appearances, he attracted attention from Juventus, who secured his services. While at Juventus, Muharemović continued his development and earned his first caps for the Bosnian national team. He was then loaned to Sassuolo in August 2024, immediately making an impact by scoring on his second appearance.
That loan spell proved pivotal as he helped Sassuolo achieve promotion to Serie A, becoming a key player with 30 appearances for the club. He continued to feature prominently for Sassuolo last season, making another 33 appearances across all competitions. Internationally, Muharemović has earned 17 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina, participating in UEFA Nations League matches, World Cup qualifiers, play-offs, and the World Cup itself. It is also noted that Juventus retain a 50% stake in any profit made by Sassuolo on the transfer.
The addition of Muharemović strengthens Leeds United’s defensive options ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season, providing competition and depth in the centre-back position. His physical presence, standing at 1.93m, will be a valuable asset for the team.
