Mario Lemina has become a subject of transfer interest this summer despite recently appearing to have extended his contract with Galatasaray, according to reports in L’Équipe. The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Turkish champions from Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 2025 and has since established himself as a key player for the Istanbul-based club.
Lemina enjoyed a successful 2025-26 season, making 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He notably scored the winning goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on March 10th, a header that significantly boosted his profile. Recent reports in Turkish media suggested that a clause in his contract had been triggered, extending his stay until 2027.
However, L’Équipe reports that Lemina’s current contract with Galatasaray is actually set to expire in June 2026. This shorter timeframe is expected to draw attention from other clubs during the upcoming transfer window. Despite the potential for offers, negotiations are ongoing between Lemina and Galatasaray, with the club reportedly willing to make a substantial financial effort to secure a contract extension.
Lemina previously played in France for Marseille and Nice before moving to the Premier League with Wolverhampton. His consistent performances in defensive midfield have made him a valuable asset for both club and country, representing Gabon internationally. He initially struggled to establish himself consistently in the Premier League, but has found a strong footing in Turkey, becoming a pivotal figure in Galatasaray’s midfield.
Should Galatasaray successfully extend Lemina’s contract, it would represent a significant boost to their squad ahead of another Champions League campaign. If he becomes available, several clubs across Europe may see him as a valuable addition to their midfield options.
