Lens are on the verge of signing PSV Eindhoven centre-back Armando Obispo in a deal worth €4 million, plus bonuses, according to reports in L’Équipe. Negotiations between the two clubs have progressed positively over recent days, with an agreement appearing imminent. The potential transfer comes as Obispo enters the final year of his contract with the Dutch side.
Obispo, 27, has spent two decades within the PSV system, progressing through their youth academy to become a regular in the first team. He has made 112 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, establishing himself as a key player in the Eredivisie. While primarily a centre-back, Obispo is known for his versatility and ability to play in defensive midfield.
Lens have been actively seeking defensive reinforcements this summer, and the acquisition of Obispo would address a clear need within their squad. The French club finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season, securing a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifiers. Strengthening their defensive options will be crucial as they navigate both domestic and European commitments.
Obispo also represents the national team of Curaçao, earning nine caps for the Caribbean nation and featuring in the recent World Cup qualifying campaign. He brings international experience to the Lens squad, adding further depth and quality to their backline. A four-year contract is reportedly being prepared for Obispo, contingent upon a successful medical examination.
The move represents a significant opportunity for Obispo to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues. For PSV, the €4 million fee offers a reasonable return for a player entering the final stages of his contract, allowing them to reinvest in other areas of the squad. This transfer could provide Lens with a long-term solution in central defence, bolstering their ambitions for a top-half finish in Ligue 1.
