Racing Club de Lens have confirmed the permanent signing of defender Saud Abdulhamid from Roma. The 26-year-old Saudi Arabian international joins the Ligue 1 club after a successful loan spell, with Lens exercising their option to buy for a reported fee of €3.5 million. Abdulhamid has signed a contract with the club that will run until 2029.
Abdulhamid spent the 2025-2026 season on loan at Lens, making a significant impact with 31 appearances across all competitions. During his time with the Sang et Or, he contributed three goals and eight assists, establishing himself as a key player in the team’s lineup. He became the first Saudi Arabian player to compete in Ligue 1 during this period.
The move to Lens represents a continuation of Abdulhamid’s career progression since leaving Al-Hilal. He has also become a regular feature for the Saudi Arabian national team, and will now be able to focus on preparing for his second World Cup appearance. Saudi Arabia has been drawn into Group H alongside Spain, Cape Verde, and Uruguay.
Lens will be hoping Abdulhamid can maintain his strong form as they look to build on their recent successes in Ligue 1. The permanent signing provides the club with a settled and experienced defender for the foreseeable future, and solidifies their squad ahead of upcoming challenges. The acquisition also demonstrates Lens's growing ambition and their willingness to invest in quality players.
