RC Lens have completed the signing of defender Maik Nawrocki from Celtic for a reported fee of €2.5 million. The 25-year-old has signed a contract with the French club that will run until 2030, according to reports in France. This move sees Nawrocki become the 21st Polish player in the history of RC Lens.
Nawrocki spent last season on loan at Hannover, where he gained further playing experience. Prior to his time at Celtic, he established himself as a promising centre-back in Poland and Germany. He joined Celtic in the summer of 2023 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under manager Brendan Rodgers, making limited appearances for the Scottish champions.
RC Lens are bolstering their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season. The club narrowly avoided relegation last season, securing their Ligue 1 status on the final day, and are clearly investing to ensure they are competitive both domestically and in Europe. The addition of Nawrocki adds much-needed depth to their defensive options.
Lens have already brought in Thorgan Hazard, Michaël Cuisance, and Michał Skóraś this transfer window, signalling an ambitious approach to strengthening the team. The club is clearly focused on building a squad capable of challenging in multiple competitions. The arrival of Nawrocki suggests the club is prioritizing defensive stability as they prepare for a demanding season. This transfer is expected to provide competition for places in the heart of the Lens defence, potentially improving overall performance and resilience.
